Clara Irene Harper

Clara is a pureblood Slytherin elitist. Her family line is quite old, but they don't necessarily run with the inner circle of the upper-elite Slytherin families. She's quite althletic, and is the reserve seeker for the Slytherin quidditch team. Clara very much enjoys adrenaline rushes and tends to be a risk-taker as a result of that. She also has a mischievous streak and derives pleasure from breaking rules and getting away with it. She's quite intelligent, but tends to apply herself more to her own plans than to her studies.

Clara's parents can only call themselves that for biological reasons. They think that their parental obligation to her begins and ends at keeping her room at home open for her (and leaving it the way she likes it) and giving Clara her own bank account to do with as she will. The bank account is rather large, but that doesn't make up for their complete indifference to her. She's never wanted for anything in the material sense, but she never knew true affection until her first year at Hogwarts.

Clara was a certified loner until another loner (through no fault of her own) saw through her gruff exterior. Ava Montague was the first human being ever to offer Clara true friendship, and immediately became Clara's best friend (not to mention the most stable thing in her life). Ava is Clara's absolute best friend in the world, and Clara would do anything for her.

Though Clara treats most of the human race with indifference, she is fiercely protective of Ava and adores Mr. and Mrs. Montague. They sort of adopted her, and she looks up to them as the parental figures she never had in her own parents. As far as she's concerned, the Montagues are more her family than the Harpers will ever be.

After the winter break of her first year, Graham's best friend Adrian Pucey befriended Clara as well. During her second year their friendship developed into flirtation and they eventually dated during her third year. The relationship lasted for two weeks, at which point they realized that the world was a better place when they were just friends. They had an amiable breakup and not long afterward he adopted her as his honorary sister, after learning what her home life was like. He's the closest thing she'll ever have to a brother.

Clara also has a tendency to go through boyfriends like a hot knife through butter. She gets bored with most guys very quickly. This may have something to do with her having real affection for Ava's brother Graham Montague. She classified it as sisterly affection for him until the end of her fifth year. As a result of the terror and loss she felt after he vanished, courtesy of the Weasley twins, she realized to her horror that she'd developed a crush on her best friend's brother. This prompted her to try and build a serious relationship with someone, but it hasn't worked thus far.

She has broken up with her most recent boyfriend, Liam, and that isn't going well. He's picking fights with her, getting her in trouble, and has even hurt her a couple of times. She wants to be rid of him, but he isn't ready to let go.

In short, Clara is wild and conflicted. She comes off as beliggerent, but it's only because she feels sort of like a lost child. She was very fortunate to become friends with Ava, and this has tempered her somewhat. Still, it would take a special kind of guy to settle her into being sensible. She does behave herself better when she's around Mr. and Mrs. Montague, and she's as close as she can get to normal when she's with their family.

Clara sat out on the observation deck of the Astronomy Tower, staring out over the grounds. Bright autumn leaves blew across the grounds in what seemed to be an endless, listless journey. Her grip tightened on the spheres and curves of her wand’s handle. She could remember the day she got it. That had been one of the best moments of her life.

It took Ollivander five tries to get the right wand for her, but her world had changed for the better when she wrapped her fingers around the handle of the seventeen inch long Ash wand, with its dragon heartstring core. A bright light shone all around her, and a rush of cold wind had blown her red waves back out of her face. A sort of tingling warmth had rushed through her, and she felt as though the dragon heartstring core of the wand began pulsing in time with her own heart.

Now her world was changing again, but not for the better. There was a war raging in the world outside the safety of Hogwarts, and she was beginning to doubt even that. It was the safest place one could be, but it wasn’t impenetrable. Something nagged at the back of her mind, and she secretly knew that things were going to get much worse before they got any better.

She chewed on her bottom lip and refused to cry. She’d never been particularly close to her parents, but after not hearing from them for over a month a feeling of dread began to overtake her. She’d sent letters to the Harper manor, but none had come in return. She studied the leaves carved into the shaft of her wand and sighed. It was beautiful.

”What if my parents are gone forever,” she thought. Then I’ll be left all alone. I’ll have the manor, and more than enough money to last me for the rest of my life, but will I be able to stay there with them gone?

She buried her face in her hands and took several deep breaths. It wouldn’t feel right to cry. She hadn’t cried in years, and certainly not over her parents. ”But they’re the only family I have. What am I supposed to do if they never come back? They’ve never taken much of an interest in me, but I’ve never wanted for anything in the material sense. I never felt like their existence was a matter of relevancy…not until it was called into question. Kind and loving or not, they’re my parents.

Her view of the carvings on her wand blurred and she no longer resisted the urge to cry. There was a war going on, and it was turning her life upside-down.
And as if not hearing from her parents wasn’t bad enough, she was falling in love with her best friend’s brother…something that could only be problematic. And the worst part was that she didn’t dare Ava. Ava was the closest thing she had to family aside from her parents, and was closer to her. Clara would never act on something that could potentially jeopardize the only real interpersonal relationship she’d ever had.
